Kujichagulia Madison Center for Self-Determination has announced the 37th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, taking place Saturday, June 20 at Penn Park in South Madison.

This year’s theme, Black Resilience: Celebrating Our History and Presence, commemorates the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth. The celebration is free and open to the public.

This year’s celebration encompasses multiple events throughout June. Juneteenth flag-raising ceremonies will be held at the City-County Building on Tuesday, June 2 and at the Wisconsin State Capitol ahead of the main celebration. On June 20, a parade will travel down Park Street to Penn
Park, where the day’s festivities begin with live music, speakers, vendors, and activities for all ages.

The celebration has historically drawn thousands of attendees from across Dane County for a full day of live entertainment, soul food, cultural performances, lectures, visual presentations, and family activities. The event receives excellent media coverage from all major outlets in the area.

For 37 years, this celebration has been one of Madison’s most anticipated annual gatherings, honoring
Black freedom, culture, and self-determination.
Vendor and volunteer registration is now open. Businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations can reserve booth space at three levels, with all applications due by June 5, 2026.

Community members who want to help bring the celebration to life can sign up to volunteer in areas from setup to stage support. Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple partnership levels for organizations that want to support the celebration.
