On February 25, 2018, at about 11:38 p.m., a welfare check was requested as it was reported there may be an injured male inside the residence at 222 12th Avenue East. Police officers responded to this address in the City of Ashland.
There was no response from inside the residence after several attempts of knocking on the door. Officers then forced their way inside and cleared the home. The only person located in the residence was a deceased male.
The Wisconsin State Crime Lab and Wisconsin State Patrol responded and are continuing to process the scene.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of the family. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Madison, Wisconsin.
This case is being investigated as an apparent homicide. Numerous leads are being followed up on. A person of interest has developed in this case. This appears to be an isolated incident.
